Located in the northeastern corner of Jackson County, Wisconsin, the Town of Cleveland has much to offer those looking for somewhere special to live or play.
Settled in 1856, the beauty of the landscape was apparent from the first settlers as they referred to the area as "Garden Valley" or "Vineyard of the Lord," because of the view they saw from what is now "Fairview Hill". In 1886, section 24 N, range 5 W, officially became known as the Town of Cleveland. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the unique natural resources the Driftless Area provides. The hilltops and valleys offer natural prairies and agricultural fields, while the wooded hillsides and slopes provide a forested backdrop to life in rural Jackson County. The area is home to the headwaters for both the Buffalo and Trempealeau Rivers, as well as creeks feeding into both the Black River and Eau Claire River watersheds. Several of these creeks are designated as Class I or Class II Trout Streams by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Because of these special features many endangered, threatened, and rare plants and animals can be found here. Although rural by character, life in the Town of Cleveland is enhanced by its proximity to larger cities and their infrastructure. US Highways 10, 12, and 27 can be found in the town, as well as County Road B. These provide easy access to larger cities such as Eau Claire, Black River Falls, and Marshfield. Smaller neighboring communities include Fairchild, Humbird, Augusta, Osseo, and Neillsville. Rest and relaxation in the Town of Cleveland greatly revolves around our natural resources. Camping, hiking, bird watching and wild life viewing, berry picking, hunting and fishing, gardening, ATV and snowmobile trails, and much more are readily available in the community. |
What's New!1. Larchmont Holdings and North Shore Services had requested the rezoning of 239.02 acres in the Town of Cleveland, Jackson county, just southeast of Price and 5 miles west of Fairchild. The rezone request was to allow heavy industrial frac sand mining on that acreage. Two previous Cleveland Town Boards had rejected the rezoning for this project, and there was strong opposition by neighbors due to environmental, quality of life, highway, and property value impacts. The project was also inconsistent with the Town's comprehensive plan, and the applicants provided no information on the nature of the operation, including depth of excavation, type of processing, road use, or who will manage the facility.
A public hearing was conducted by the Jackson County Zoning, Planning, and POWTS Dept. on 12/21/15 to address this rezone request. Many citizens attended and many sent letters that were read aloud into the record. Every attendee and letter voiced opposition to this project. The Jackson County Zoning Dept. voted to deny the rezone request. 2. A resident in the Town of Cleveland sold 318 acres to Wisconsin Proppants LLC on December 30, 2015. The parcels start around the intersection of County B and Town Hall Road and head north. |
